Member Spotlight - Kathy Silvon Kathy Silvon - WHO DO YOU QUILT FOR? Is it your family, friends, church, community, yourself or the judges? While showing some of my quilts I hope to demonstrate who I quilt for and why. I would describe my style as a traditionalist with a twist. But, in truth I love it all! I love to buy patterns. I enjoy reading them, much like I used to buy cookbooks. I never made all those recipes, and I will NEVER be able to make all those patterns. My first quilt was done 52yrs ago. But the bulk of my quilting was in the last 30yrs. I’ve been a member of BVQ 16yrs and I was in a guild in Indiana for 10yrs.

Emily Taylor, The Collage Quilter

Emily Taylor is a self-taught artist, fabric designer and quilter. She has been a creative entrepreneur in both the home decor industry and quilt industry for 20+ years. Emily has been featured on QVC and won multiple awards for her murals. Emily first became involved with the quilt industry in 2009, as a fabric designer for Riley Blake Designs. Besides creating over a dozen fabric collections, she also developed the free quilt design website, PatternJam.com. For Emily, collage quilts represent the perfect fusion of art and quilting! She currently teaches workshops and sells her unique patterns worldwide. She is also the author of Collage Quilter: Essentials for Success with Collage Quilts. When not in her studio overlooking the beautiful Wasatch Mountains, Emily is an avid outdoor thrill seeker and loves to ski, mountain bike and hike with her husband and three children near their home in Sandy, Utah.

Denise Martin is the owner of Seamless Sewing Arts, a modern fabric and sewing studio she launched in 2020 with a simple goal: make quilting and sewing feel fresh, relevant, and irresistible to today’s makers. Join me for an inspiring and interactive lecture that traces my personal journey through the vibrant world of quilting. “Finding Pride & Joy in Quilting” explores how I began with traditional techniques and gradually evolved into designing large-scale, intricate Foundation Paper Pieced (FPP) quilts that celebrate both technical precision and artistic expression.

During this 60-minute presentation, I share foundational insights into FPP, covering everything from design experimentation and pattern drafting essentials to avoiding common pitfalls and refining your technique. I also dive into modern approaches to color theory, fabric selection, and strategies for minimizing bulk to achieve polished, high-impact quilts.

This lecture is not just about my story, it’s about equipping and inspiring others. The format is highly interactive, with opportunities for attendees to ask questions throughout. I include live demonstrations to illustrate key concepts, and a curated trunk show featuring some of my favorite quilts that highlight the heart and joy behind every stitch.
